If you teach beyond yoga and meditation, your master policy is not enough.
The Yoga & Meditation policy covers what its name says. Aerial Yoga, Acro Yoga, YogaLates, massage, and personal training sit outside that scope and need an add-on policy. The page you're on is the published reference for that add-on.
If you teach Aerial, Acro, YogaLates, massage, or personal training, your master policy doesn't cover that class.
The Yoga & Meditation master policy is the floor for everything inside its name. The activities outside it are not edge cases — they're the most-taught extensions of a working teacher's calendar. A teacher running a Wednesday Aerial class on the same week as a Thursday Restorative session needs both kinds of cover for both kinds of liability. The master policy does the second; this add-on does the first. Cover gaps in this profession are usually not about price or paperwork; they're about a teacher discovering, after the fact, that the class she was teaching wasn't covered by the policy she thought she had.
"Are you set up to teach confidently every class on your calendar this week — including the ones that fall outside Yoga and Meditation? If the answer is anything other than yes, the architecture below is the answer."
The eight facts
Eight facts. The whole architecture of the add-on, in detail.
The add-on policy is structured. The eight facts below are the load-bearing ones. Click each card for the rule, the reason it exists, and the practical edge it tends to live on.
£44Annual UK premium · €80 Eire · paid direct to Balens
From application to active cover
Three steps. The route runs through Balens, not through YogaPros.
The master policy activates through the YogaPros Live CV verification chain. The add-on activates through Balens directly. The route is structured; below is what happens at each stage.
1
Submit the Balens application
Complete the UK or EIRE Application Form direct on the Balens portal. Note YogaPros membership clearly. List the additional activities you teach. Send qualification documents for each activity to yap@balens.co.uk for review.
2
Balens reviews qualifications
Balens checks each declared activity against held qualifications and the published Therapies List. Activities outside the standard scheme (Class 4+) are flagged and referred for separate direct cover. A higher-risk premium may apply to specific activities; this is communicated before binding.
3
Premium paid · cover active
Member pays the annual premium directly to Balens — £44 UK or €80 Eire. Therapies certificate is issued by Balens and emailed to the member. Cover is now active for all approved activities, alongside the master Yoga & Meditation policy. Both display on the member's Live CV.
Activation timing depends on the speed of qualification review at Balens; straightforward applications typically complete within a few working days. The add-on does not auto-renew — Balens issues a renewal invitation each year, with the new premium and any updated terms; the member confirms membership renewal first, then pays the add-on premium directly to Balens. If the YogaPros membership or master policy lapses at any point, the add-on lapses with it; renewal is conditional on both being active.
What if?
Six teaching cases. Where the add-on does and doesn't apply.
Click any card. The front is the situation. The back is the response: which policy covers what, what to do, what timeline to expect.
Scenario 01 · Aerial Yoga class
You're adding a weekly Aerial class to your Wednesday calendar.
You hold an Aerial Yoga teacher qualification from a recognised provider. The studio expects insurance proof before your first class. Your master Yoga & Meditation policy doesn't list Aerial.
Tap to see the response →
How the add-on responds
Aerial sits inside the multi-therapy add-on. Two-stage application.
Apply for the multi-therapy add-on direct to Balens via the UK or EIRE Application Form.
Submit your Aerial qualification document for review. Balens checks the qualification meets their standard.
Annual premium £44 UK / €80 Eire is paid direct to Balens once cover is bound.
Once active, the add-on certificate is issued by Balens via email; show it to the studio alongside your master policy certificate.
Both policies must remain active for the Aerial class to be covered. If either lapses, both lapse together for that class.
← Back to scenario
Scenario 02 · YogaLates (yoga + Pilates)
You teach a class branded as "YogaLates" combining yoga and mat Pilates.
The class is sold as a fusion offering. You hold a Pilates qualification alongside your yoga training. The studio is asking which insurance covers the combined class.
Tap to see the response →
How the add-on responds
YogaLates needs the add-on. The yoga portion alone is covered, but the Pilates fusion is not.
The master policy covers the yoga component only; the moment the class branding or content includes Pilates, the master policy alone is insufficient.
YogaLates is explicitly listed as an activity requiring the multi-therapy add-on.
Submit the Pilates qualification to Balens with the application form so the add-on covers both elements.
Once both are in force, the entire class is covered — yoga via the master, Pilates via the add-on.
Class certificates and waivers should reflect the combined nature; transparent labelling protects both you and the student.

Scenario 03 · Acro Yoga workshops
You're running a Saturday Acro Yoga workshop series in a community hall.
Acro involves partner work, base-and-flyer postures, occasional inversions. The community hall is asking for current insurance documentation before confirming the booking.
Tap to see the response →
How the add-on responds
Acro is an explicit add-on activity. Held qualification is required.
Acro Yoga is one of the activities the multi-therapy add-on was designed to cover.
Submit your Acro Yoga qualification to Balens; the add-on application form has the relevant section.
Balens may apply a higher-risk premium uplift for Acro specifically, given the partner-work and inversion content; this is communicated before binding.
Once active, the certificate covers the workshop series — community hall, retreat venue, festival, or studio — as long as you hold the qualification and the venue is not in an excluded territory.
Public Liability remains a requirement for the venue; the add-on covers Acro-specific Professional Liability layered on top.
← Back to scenario
Scenario 04 · Massage offered alongside yoga
You qualified in Thai Yoga Massage and want to offer 30-min sessions before class.
The studio is happy with the addition; the question is whether your existing YogaPros membership cover extends to massage work, or whether something separate is needed.
Tap to see the response →
How the add-on responds
Massage is on the Therapies List. The add-on covers it, with qualification.
Massage is one of the activities explicitly listed as available under the multi-therapy add-on.
Submit your Thai Yoga Massage qualification to Balens for review during application.
Once active, the add-on covers professional indemnity for the massage work; your master policy continues to cover the yoga teaching that follows.
Balens may classify some massage modalities as Class 4+; if so, those specific modalities are referred for direct cover (separate policy, not under YAP scheme).
Both pre-class massage and post-class massage are covered on the same basis; what matters is the qualification, not the timing relative to the yoga class.
← Back to scenario
Scenario 05 · Personal training alongside yoga
You're a qualified PT and you offer 1:1 PT sessions to your yoga students.
Some students book yoga and PT in the same week. You want to know whether the YogaPros cover protects the PT work, or whether your PT qualification needs separate cover entirely.
Tap to see the response →
How the add-on responds
Personal training is on the add-on list. With a held PT qualification, cover applies.
Personal training is one of the higher-risk activities the master Yoga & Meditation policy excludes; the add-on extends cover to it.
Submit your PT qualification (typically REPs / CIMSPA / ACE / NASM equivalent) to Balens during application.
The add-on premium is the same £44 UK / €80 Eire annual whether the add-on covers one extra activity or several, provided each is supported by a held qualification.
Balens may apply an additional premium component for activities deemed higher risk; this is disclosed before the policy binds.
The PT sessions and the yoga sessions are covered on different policies but appear as one continuous teaching practice from the student's perspective; the architecture is invisible from the outside.
← Back to scenario
Scenario 06 · Class 4+ activity
You teach an activity Balens classifies as Class 4 or above.
A specific modality you've added — perhaps an extreme aerial discipline or high-risk movement form — has been flagged by Balens as outside the YAP add-on scheme. You want to know what happens next.
Tap to see the response →
How the add-on responds
Class 4+ falls outside the YogaPros scheme. Direct application to Balens covers it separately.
The YogaPros multi-therapy scheme covers up to (but not beyond) the Class 3 activity tier.
For Class 4+ activities, Balens issues a separate, individually-rated policy outside the YogaPros scheme.
The premium is set per activity by Balens underwriting and is typically higher than the discounted YAP add-on rate.
Your master Yoga & Meditation policy still applies to your yoga teaching; the Class 4+ activity is covered separately on its own policy line.
Apply directly via Balens at yap@balens.co.uk or 01684 581887; mention you're a YogaPros member to access any available member-rate components on the related cover.

Different countries take different policies. UK, Eire, and USA each have a dedicated underwriter. Trips abroad sit under the UK policy with explicit exclusions. Click a region.
UK · £6M · Balens / Zurich Eire · €6.5M · Balens Europe B.V. USA · $2M · Insurance Canopy Rest of World · UK temporary trips (excl. USA, Canada, Russia, Belarus)
United Kingdom · multi-therapy add-on
£44 annual. Live add-on for UK-based members.
● Active · paid direct to Balens · alongside £6M master policy
UK members carrying the master Yoga & Meditation policy can extend cover via the multi-therapy add-on for an annual premium of £44 paid directly to Balens Ltd. Activities covered include Aerial Yoga, Acro Yoga, YogaLates, massage, personal training, and other listed therapies subject to held qualifications. The add-on is conditional on active YogaPros membership and active master policy at the time of application and at every renewal. Renewal is not automatic; Balens issues a separate renewal invitation each year.
€80 annual. Live add-on for Eire-domiciled members.
● Active · paid direct to Balens Europe · alongside €6.5M master policy
Eire-domiciled members carrying the master €6.5M Yoga & Meditation policy via Balens Europe B.V. can extend cover via the multi-therapy add-on for an annual premium of €80 paid directly to Balens. The same activities are covered as for UK members, subject to held qualifications. The add-on is conditional on active YogaPros membership and active master policy. Renewal is not automatic; Balens issues a separate renewal invitation each year.
The YogaPros multi-therapy add-on does not apply to US members.
● Active · USA cover runs separately via Insurance Canopy
US-domiciled YogaPros members carry the USA $2M policy via Insurance Canopy, not the UK Balens / Zurich policy. The multi-therapy add-on described on this page extends the UK and Eire master policies only. US members teaching activities outside the standard scope of the Insurance Canopy policy should contact Insurance Canopy directly for additional cover lines. The architecture is different in the US market; the principle of "qualification + base + add-on" still applies, just routed through a different underwriter.
UK and Eire add-on cover follows the master policy abroad.
● Live · temporary trips covered · Class 4+ activities require direct cover
UK and Eire members carrying both the master policy and the multi-therapy add-on remain covered for the listed activities while teaching abroad on temporary trips, subject to the same excluded territories as the master policy: USA, Canada, Russia, Belarus. Class 4+ activities (high-risk modalities) sit outside the YogaPros scheme regardless of region and require direct cover from Balens on a separate policy line. For permanent relocation outside UK / Eire / USA, the team routes to the appropriate underwriter.
Four names. One stack of trust for the multi-therapy cover.
The add-on is held with people who insure complementary-health professionals every day. The roles are different from the master policy stack; the architecture is built so the right party handles the right part of the relationship.

Balens Europe
For Ireland-domiciled members, Balens Europe B.V. underwrites the multi-therapy add-on directly. Authorised and regulated by Autoriteit Financiële Markten in the Netherlands (licence 12046134), the appropriate EU-domiciled regulatory route. The Eire add-on premium is €80 annual.
The UK's largest legal-expenses insurer. ARAG legal-expenses cover up to £100,000 per claim for criminal defence, disciplinary hearings, tax disputes, jury service, and similar matters is included with the master Yoga & Meditation policy. The legal cover applies across the member's professional teaching, including activities covered by the multi-therapy add-on. Helpline 0344 893 6911 (Mon–Fri 9am–5pm).
YogaPros maintains the member infrastructure — Live CV, directory listing, Code of Practice — and verifies membership status when Balens runs the add-on application or renewal. YogaPros does NOT collect or hold the add-on premium; the premium runs directly between the member and Balens. YogaPros' role is membership and verification; Balens' role is underwriting.

If a claim arrives on a multi-therapy activity
Four steps. The route runs through Balens, end to end.
The add-on is held by Balens directly; claims on multi-therapy activities run through Balens, not through YogaPros. The process is structured. Below is the route from notification to resolution.
1
Notify Balens
Phone or email Balens with what you know: the date, the activity (Aerial / Acro / YogaLates / massage / PT), what the student or third party is alleging. Don't respond to the claimant directly. Balens opens the file. Reach Balens at yap@balens.co.uk or 01684 581887.
You · Balens
2
Balens confirms cover
Balens checks the claim against your active multi-therapy add-on policy and your held qualification for the relevant activity. Where the cover applies, the claim is allocated to the appropriate underwriting team for assessment. You don't have to do anything in this step.

3
Defence and assessment
Where legal advice or defence is needed, ARAG legal-expenses cover (up to £100,000) supports the case alongside the add-on liability cover. Solicitors take instructions, prepare correspondence, and attend any meetings or proceedings on your behalf. You're informed, not exposed.

4
Resolution
Most claims settle without court, typically inside 6–12 months for small-to-medium incidents. Where settlement is appropriate, the underwriter pays within the policy limits. Where defence holds, the case closes. The claim outcome is documented for the renewal record but does not automatically affect future cover where you've behaved professionally.

The questions members ask
Things teachers actually want to know about the add-on.
The most-cited activities are Aerial Yoga, Acro Yoga, YogaLates, massage, and personal training — these are deemed higher-risk than yoga and meditation and are explicitly outside the master Yoga & Meditation policy. The full Therapies List of activities the add-on can cover is available from Balens on request; if your activity is not on the list, the application form has a stage for adding it for review. Class 4+ activities cannot be covered under the YogaPros scheme and require direct cover from Balens on a separate policy line.
The annual premium is £44 in the UK and €80 in Eire, paid directly to Balens Ltd. The premium is offered at a discounted rate because of your active YogaPros membership. Balens may apply an additional premium component for activities deemed higher risk; this is communicated before the policy binds. The premium is paid annually direct to Balens, not bundled into your YogaPros membership fee.
The renewal terms and fee will be confirmed in a renewal invitation sent by Balens. The therapies insurance policy will not automatically renew — your action is required each year. Renewal is conditional on you also renewing your YogaPros membership; if the membership lapses, the renewal cannot proceed. The action is mechanical: confirm membership renewal, pay the annual premium to Balens, and cover continues uninterrupted.
Contact Balens directly. Email yap@balens.co.uk or call 01684 581887. Because the add-on is held with Balens, the contact-detail change must be made with them — updating your YogaPros profile alone will not update the add-on policy record. Both should be updated when your details change.
Contact Balens with the new qualification document. Email yap@balens.co.uk or call 01684 581887. Balens reviews the qualification, confirms the activity is on the Therapies List (or refers it for review if not), and updates the policy accordingly. Any premium adjustment for additional higher-risk activities is communicated before the change is applied. Most qualification additions are processed within a few working days.
Your therapies certificate is issued by Balens and sent via email. Check your junk and spam folders first — emails from underwriters are sometimes filtered. If the certificate hasn't arrived, contact Balens at yap@balens.co.uk or call 01684 581887. Balens can re-issue the certificate or confirm the policy status while the document is being located.
The renewal fee is detailed in the invitation email Balens sends each year. Premiums can change year-to-year based on Balens' underwriting position, your activities, any claims history, and qualification updates during the year. The renewal email itemises the new fee and any changes to terms; if anything is unclear, the Balens line at 01684 581887 walks through the renewal alongside you.
No. The multi-therapy add-on is structured as an extension of the YogaPros base cover. Active YogaPros membership AND active master Yoga & Meditation insurance are both required at application and at every renewal. Without active membership, the discounted-rate add-on is not available; non-members teaching multi-therapy activities apply directly to Balens at the standard non-member rate, which is materially higher than the YogaPros member rate.
I've taught yoga and Aerial side by side for years. Until I added the multi-therapy add-on, my Aerial classes were the only part of my week that wasn't covered. The application took an afternoon, the certificate arrived a week later, and I haven't worried about it since. The architecture is simple once you understand it — and it sits underneath everything I teach.

Apply direct with Balens
The route runs through Balens. Membership active, master policy active, qualification held — apply.
Once your YogaPros membership and master Yoga & Meditation policy are active, the add-on application sits with Balens directly. Have your qualification document for the activity ready; the application form takes most members under thirty minutes.
Cover gaps are usually not about price. They're about discovering, after the fact, that the class you taught wasn't covered by the policy you thought you had.
When Brian and I built the YogaPros insurance architecture, we wrote the master policy to cover yoga and meditation — broadly, generously, retroactively. But we knew, even in 2006, that the modern teacher's calendar wouldn't stop there. Aerial would arrive. Acro would arrive. YogaLates would arrive. Massage and personal training would arrive. So we built the add-on with Balens as a clean, conditional extension — discounted because of YogaPros membership, qualified per activity, transparent on what's covered and what isn't. The architecture exists because the alternative is a teacher discovering, six weeks into a new Aerial slot, that her cover stopped at the studio door of yoga and meditation. We don't want that conversation; we want the one above this letter, where the cover follows the calendar and the teacher teaches with confidence.
