Am I Covered To Provide Food To My Students?
If you’re insured with Balens through your Yoga Pros membership, offering light refreshments such as tea, coffee, or biscuits is covered. However, catering or organising food for events is not included in the standard policy. Always check directly with your insurance provider.
Why This Matters
While sharing a cup of tea after class adds to the community experience, providing food — especially for events or retreats — introduces different risks and liability. Insurance providers need to draw a line between light hospitality and professional catering services. Knowing what’s covered helps you avoid gaps in protection.
What This Means for You
If you have insurance with Balens, cover would be provided for therapists who are providing refreshments alongside a Yoga session.
If you’re offering meals, hiring caterers, or charging for food, this would fall outside your policy, and you would not be covered in the event of a food-related claim.
If food plays a regular or structured role in your offerings (e.g. at retreats or workshops), it’s important to speak directly with Balens about what additional cover may be required.
What You Need to Do
If food is part of your retreat or event offering, contact Balens to discuss possible additional insurance options.
